Report publication: FRAIA in action

The report ‘FRAIA in action‘ summarises the results of the pilot in which Data School (Centre for Digital Humanities, Utrecht University) collaborated with the Rijks ICT Gilde (RIG) for the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations. Over the Fall of 2023 and Spring of 2024, a range of government bodies applied the FRAIA to 15 of their algorithms.

The Fundamental Rights and Algorithm Impact Assessment (FRAIA) helps to map the risks to fundamental rights in the use of algorithms and to take measures to address the risks. The FRAIA was developed in 2021 by Data School and was commissioned by the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations.

The ‘FRAIA in action’ report comprises practical tips on how to do a FRAIA as well as holds recommendations (from both FRAIA participants and guides) to further develop the FRAIA. In an interview with the authors of the report, they give a further explanation. It turns out that the participants to the FRAIA pilots were always positively surprised by the process and outcome of a FRAIA.
