Introduction to Blender – with guest presentation of artist Nishiko
This special edition CDH workshop, in collaboration with the NewMedia Centre at TU Delft Library, is designed to guide participants who are considering taking their first steps in the field of 3D modeling using Blender, a software tool set used for creating 3D computer graphics and animations.
The Blender creation suite supports the entire 3D pipeline, including modeling, rigging, animation, simulation, rendering, compositing and motion tracking, video editing and game creation. This entry level workshop will be led by experts from the NewMedia Centre (NMC) at the TU Delft Library and will cover Blender’s basic modeling techniques.
Program
The training consists of two parts. In the morning session, the instructors will provide an overview of Blender’s functionalities, covering basic modeling, linking materials, scaling, rotating, and the UV Editor. Additionally, conceptual artist Nishiko and art history PhD candidate Liselore Tissen will provide a guest presentation on 3D technology. In the afternoon, participants can work on a dummy project or, if desired, on their own project, with guidance from the instructors.
Guest presentation
Conceptual artist Nishiko plans to incorporate 3D modeling and printing into her work, and collaborates with art history PhD candidate Liselore Tissen to explore the technical options of 3D printing. During this workshop, Nishiko and Tissen will not only participate, but also share insights into their project, offering a unique perspective on technology from an artistic point of view. One of Nishiko’s most renowned works is the Repairing Earthquake Project (2011-), where she creatively repairs and transforms objects she found after the major earthquake in East Japan into artworks. Tissen investigates the significance of 3D printing for the art world, the perception of and interaction with art, technical art historical research and the conservation and presentation of paintings.
Location
The workshop is hosted in the VR Zone, a dedicated virtual reality (VR) lab at Delft University of Technology, situated on the campus at the TU Delft Library. This location aims to assist students, lecturers and researches in using, building and exploring VR in education and research.
Level & preparation
The training is designed for absolute beginners and requires no prior experience or preparation. There is no need to bring anything except for your own food and drinks. Computers will be available for participants to use during the workshop.
Target audience
Staff and students of all faculties are welcome to join this workshop.
