LUCDH Lunchtime Speaker Series: Exploring Web Archives
Leiden University Centre for Digital Humanities (LUCDH) organizes monthly lunchtime talks. This talk, presented by Dr. Karin de Wild and Mirjam Cuper, gives a brief introduction on how to access web archives, using the web archive in the KB, National Library of the Netherlands as an example. Until recently, it was only possible to preview web pages within a playback environment. As part of the KB researcher-in-residence program, a SolrWayback search engine was implemented that offers the opportunity to also access and analyse web archival data at scale. This lecture will give insights in some of the functionalities of the SolrWayback and how it can support researchers who are interested in both close and distant reading.
In the second half, they will open up a conversation. How may you like to use web archives in your current research and how can the SolrWayback support? While first steps are made, the ambition is to continue develop the SolrWayback. The KB welcomes collaborations with researchers for using this search environment, also to further improve its functionalities and provide tools and dashboards necessary to understand the vast amount of data that sits within the KB web archive.
