On Friday 5 July, the farewell symposium for prof. dr. Kees van Deemter will take place in the Utrecht University Hall (Academiegebouw) at the Domplein in Utrecht from 9:00 to 18:00 hrs.

This symposium is titled ‘Generative AI: Science or Engineering?’ and will explore methodological issues surrounding the use of Deep Learning in Natural Language Processing (NLP). These issues will include the methodological validity, limitations and interdisciplinarity of NLP.

The event is being organized and sponsored by the Department of Information and Computing Sciences and the Descartes Centre, and also sponsored by the AiNed project ‘Dealing with meaning variation in NLP’ and the Utrecht University focus area Human-centered AI.

For the symposium, the maximum number of participants has been reached. However, you can still register for the waitlist as well as for the reception at the end of the afternoon. Confirmations will follow closer to the date.
