Event details

Date:

Time:
15:00 - 16:30
Location:
Microsoft Teams

During this hands-on session on automatic speech recognition (ASR) on radio, dr. Alexander Badenoch (MCW) will cover a case study of the Eurovision Song Contest.

A large and growing part of the collections in the Clariah Media Suite now have searchable ASR data attached to them. ASR presents a powerful tool in enabling digital exploration of audiovisual material. By rendering audio speech as digital text, it enables search and analysis of audiovisual material that goes beyond the standard metadata fields, and allows us to pinpoint the split second a specific word is uttered.

This session will provide a hands-on dive into working with the ASR layer in the Media Suite by looking into the Eurovision Song Competition – as discussed on radio. Besides familiarizing participants with ASR and the media suite in general, it also provides critique and reflection on what can be done with ASR, specifically in Dutch-language collections. This webinar is interesting for (international) researchers and teachers and students who already have some familiarity with digital humanities.

Please note! To login in to the Media Suite, it is necessary to have an email account of a Dutch university or KNAW institute. UU staff and students can login with their Solis-IDParticipants outside the Netherlands are able to view search results and metadata (including transcripts) in the Media Suite, but the related audiovisual files will not play out.
