AI Labs call to action – new deadlines for 2022

AI Labs has issued a second call to action for new project ideas, with 1 March 2022 as the deadline.

About AI Labs

AI Labs are a collaborative fund from the faculties of Science, Geosciences and Humanities. Utrecht University encourages more collaborative, transdisciplinary, long-term and sustainable research projects with public and private organisations. With the start of the AI Labs, UU aims to provide external parties and sectors with the means to address their (societal) challenges through AI and Data Science research and techniques, and to collaborate with interdisciplinary science teams at Utrecht University.

The Faculties of Science, Geosciences and Humanities have allocated funds to encourage researchers at Utrecht University to collaborate with each other and to attract funding from external parties. For this purpose, they have identified three new domains where interdisciplinary collaboration can be started in AI Labs:

  • AI & Sustainability
  • AI & Life Sciences
  • AI & Digital Humanities

The three new labs are open to researchers from Utrecht University that have concrete plans to collaborate with external parties on any of the labs-themes. We would like to invite you to send us your inter- and transdisciplinary project ideas that could fit within one of these labs.

The previous call to action in September 2021 resulted in 7 projects being funded, including 3 digital humanities projects. Read more about these projects here. For 2022 there will be two more deadlines.

Submission date

1 March 2022 – The second submission deadline (any time on earth)
1 September 2022 – The third submission deadline* (any time on earth)
*if sufficient funds remain after the second round
