Historical data available via Yoda

Utrecht University Library has developed a new way for UU employees to digitally access the raw data of millions of newspaper articles dating as far back as 1785.

The text corpora of the following historical datasets are now accessible and downloadable via Yoda:

  • Eighteenth Century Collections Online, Guardian & Observer (1791-1909 & 1910-2003)
  • Nineteenth Century U.K. Periodicals, Module 1, Times Digital Archives (1785-2011)
  • Times Literary Supplement (1902-2014)

Accessing these datasets on Yoda replaces the process of researchers working on hard drives. This new way of opening up the datasets helps researchers in preparing their corpus for text and data mining.

Researchers can request access to the Yoda environment by sending an email to library@uu.nl. The request will then be completed through Topdesk and Formdesk.
