Enhance your funding proposal
Are you seeking guidance on the technical aspect of your funding proposal? The Centre for Digital Humanities collaborates closely with the Research Support Office (RSO) at Utrecht University to assist researchers in locating and securing external funding for their projects. To increase your chances of success, our experts can offer advice on the viability of your computational and data-driven methods and assist with formulating the technical paragraphs of your application. Additionally, we can provide you with information on data management plans, FAIR principles, and software lifecycle management.
Tailored research software
The Research Software Lab (RS Lab) can advise on and assist you with various inquiries:
- Are you in need of guidance regarding software solutions for your research?
- Are you interested in exploring available tools or discussing the possibility of developing custom software?
- Would you like a thorough review of your self-written code?
Impact & collaboration
The Data School impact advisor can assist you with questions related to:
- Data ethics: Responsible data practices, algorithms, and AI (in education);
- Collaborating with societal and cultural partners;
- Providing development opportunities for both students and professionals.
Statistics and quantitative methods
Kirsten Schutter is the statistical advisor of the Faculty of Humanities. She can answer questions and provide assistance in areas such as:
- Research design, data collection, and data analysis;
- Exploring suitable quantitative methods and associated tools;
- References to relevant literature and tutorials;
- Advice on delineating one’s own (knowledge) boundaries.
Experimental linguistic research
Institute for Language Sciences (ILS) Labs facilitate experimental linguistic research by:
- Providing consultation and training on psycholinguistic experimentation, data preprocessing and statistical analysis, for ILS faculty, postdocs and PhD candidates;
- Building and maintaining experimental setups;
- Providing lendable equipment for psycholinguistic research, e.g. for research using behavioral and bio measures;
- We provide (limited) support for BA and (R)MA student research in courses, internships and theses; please note that such student research is possible only when fully supervised by an adequately trained ILS-affiliated faculty member or postdoc.
Data management & privacy
The Faculty of Humanities provides support to researchers through a data manager and two privacy officers. These experts can assist you with your questions on all aspects of research data management and personal data handling.
Websites & IT infrastructure
If you require a custom WordPress website for your project or have inquiries regarding information systems architecture, IT security, or performance; our experts at Humanities IT Services are available for:
- Delivery and maintenance of tailor-made server environments for research, utilizing modern “DevOps” automation practices to ensure efficient and timely delivery;
- Provision of a multisite WordPress environment, enabling quick creation of project websites with a wide range of available components and themes. Specialist support is also provided;
- Consultation on technological topics such as information systems architecture, IT security, performance, and different options for making research tools accessible.
Affiliated members
Our team of affiliated members comprises six academic staff members, along with a strategic advisor and director, who are part of the four humanities departments at Utrecht University. With their diverse and extensive expertise in the field of digital humanities, they are readily available to address any inquiries you may have. Ethics
The Faculty Ethics Assessment Committee Humanities (FEtC-H) monitors the integrity of empirical research involving human subjects by assessing in advance any planned study with participants on criteria concerning informed consent, acceptable burden and risks to participants, and appropriate data management procedures.
