This entry-level workshop is for anyone who works with digital images or maps, whether you are a researcher, teacher, communication staff member or student. Dr. Andrea van Leerdam & dr. Marco van Egmond, both curators and information/collection specialists at Utrecht University Library, will give an introduction to working with IIIF (‘triple-eye-ef’, International Image Interoperability Framework) to simplify your daily tasks, avoid duplication and reduce the digital humanities’ ecological footprint.

IIIF

What is IIIF? How do you find it and what can you do with it? What does the University Library offer in regards to IIIF? Come to the workshop to find out the answers to these questions, and learn the basics of using IIIF in your work with digital images and maps.

Practical information

This event will take place on Thursday, 6 March 2025, from 10.00 to 13.00 hours in the Digital Humanities Workspace of the Utrecht University Library, City Centre (room 0.32, Drift 27, Utrecht). Admission is free.

Level

No prior experience with georeferencing or IIIF is required, nor do you need to have IT knowledge to participate. This workshop is designed for beginners. The workshop will be in English.

Preparation

Participants should bring their own laptops.

Walk-in hour

You are also very welcome to visit the weekly Digital Humanities walk-in hour taking place in the same location (the Digital Humanities Workspace) after this workshop, from 14:00 to 15:00 hrs. No sign-up or preparation is necessary for this walk-in hour, we encourage you to just come by!

Due to our funding, priority will be given to teachers, researchers and students of the Faculty of Humanities at Utrecht University for this workshop. If you are affiliated with a different faculty or institution but interested in participating, please register below to be placed on a waiting list. Notification of available spaces will be sent shortly before the workshop.
