KB symposium: Historical newspapers in the era of AI
On 21 March, the National Library (Koninklijke Bibliotheek, KB) will organise the symposium ‘Historische kranten in het AI-tijdperk’ (Historical newspapers in the era of AI). Please note that the entire event will be in Dutch.
Subjects covered will include the possibilities and limits of Machine Learning and (generative) AI as it is applied to large digital heritage collections such as the archives of historical newspapers in Delpher (Dutch). Scientists will share their experience using these and similar collections for training and research purposes while heritage professionals will show how they apply AI to unlock their collections. It looks to be an inspiring and thought-provoking day for researchers, heritage professionals, journalists and other interested parties.
The symposium is organised in cooperation with the research project Semantics of Sustainability, in which Utrecht University’s Pim Huijnen, together with the eScience Center Amsterdam, the UU Centre for Digital Humanities and the KB develop advanced machine-learning applications for analysing historical data. This will be the third symposium in the ‘Historical newspapers as big data’ series, after successful editions in 2015 and 2017.
The symposium will take place on Friday, 21 March in the Aula of the National Library (The Hague). You can register and find the programme on the KB website.
