Digital Humanities Walk-In Hour (weekly)
Are you new to the field of digital humanities and looking for expert guidance to shape your research or education? Or do you have a specific question about research software, digital sources, programming, or statistics?
All teachers, researchers and students at the Faculty of Humanities of Utrecht University are welcome to visit our weekly Digital Humanities walk-in hours. No appointment is needed – just drop by on Thursdays from 14:00 to 15:00 hrs in the Digital Humanities Workspace!
During the DH walk-in hours, various digital humanities specialists will be present to provide you with consultancy – whether you’re just starting out or already more experienced. The team includes a scientific developer from the Research Software Lab, support staff from the Data School, a member of Research Data Management (RDM) Support and a DH specialist of the University Library.
We can advise on topics such as:
- how to get started with digital humanities in your humanities research or education;
- how to develop or adapt your courses to match the new ‘digital literacy’ end terms;
- the technical component of your research (funding) proposal;
- finding appropriate existing research software, the development of new tailor-made applications or how to optimize your self-written code;
- creating and sharing datasets, data security or privacy issues;
- how to analyze your data with R or Python;
- acquiring, archiving, and accessing qualitative and quantitative data;
- using digital humanities methods in education;
- automatic optical character or handwriting recognition;
- digitized full-text corpora and Linked Open Data;
- your quantitative research design, and which methods and statistical analysis to use.
