Humanities IT Services
The Humanities IT Services group consists of the System Team, Portal Dev Team and WordPress Team. They provide IT services for the Centre for Digital Humanities and the Faculty of Humanities, within the section Humanities IT.
A number of specific services, in particular Linux virtual servers and WordPress sites, are not only provided to the faculty, but also available to other parts of Utrecht University. Humanities researchers, teachers & students
If you require a custom WordPress website for your project or have inquiries regarding information systems architecture, IT security, or performance; our experts at Humanities IT Services are available for:
- Delivery and maintenance of tailor-made server environments for research, utilizing modern “DevOps” automation practices to ensure efficient and timely delivery;
- Provision of a multisite WordPress environment, enabling quick creation of project websites with a wide range of available components and themes. Specialist support is also provided;
- Consultation on technological topics such as information systems architecture, IT security, performance, and different options for making research tools accessible.
Our expertise
Our expertise includes, among others, the following:
- A strong focus on Linux server environments and web applications, accommodating anything from small, single-user research tools to load-balanced multi-server hosting environments;
- Extensive experience in managing and securing Linux and Windows servers;
- Proficiency in Elasticsearch, Docker, and other relevant technologies for Digital Humanities research.
Our experts
The operational staff at the Centre for Digital Humanities is embedded within the Faculty of Humanities as the section Humanities IT (SolisID required). The Humanities IT section comprises all research engineers, system engineers, developers, lab technicians, knowledge valorisation officers, education/research officers, data stewards, privacy officers, and support staff working at the Centre for Digital Humanities. Researchers and teachers collaborating with the CDH are employed at their respective departments. In addition to staffing the operations of the Research Software Lab, ILS Labs, Data School, and the Data Management & Privacy team, Humanities IT also provides IT services through its Humanities IT Services group.
