Event details

Time:
13:00 - 16:00
Venue:
Digital Humanities Workspace
Drift 27 (Room 0.32), Utrecht, 3512 BR

During this introductory workshop, Sander Prins, Technical Support Assistant at the Centre for Digital Humanities, will teach you the basics of web scraping and guide you through the graphical user interface named Outwit Hub.

Websites and online platforms are increasingly being studied within scientific research. Unfortunately, the vast amount of information that websites provide is not always immediately available in a usable format. To orderly retrieve and automate data extraction, an examination of the available information is required. The underlying structure of websites can be investigated and exposed with the help of reverse engineering. The instructor will show you the possibilities of collecting and organizing data from online resources. This workshop is specially meant for humanities staff.

Admission is free, but the number of participants is limited, so please register as soon as possible (first come, first served). If you are unable to attend, please cancel your registration by sending an email to CDH@uu.nl, so another participant can take your place.

Please note: the Centre for Digital Humanities aims to promote digital literacy amongst staff-members and therefore compensates attendance to these courses in terms of DCU (22 hours = 1 DCU). The DCU’s will be automatically settled with your department at the end of the course.
